Framed Size: Height 51.5 cm x Width 62 cm x Depth 6.5 cm
Image Size: Height 25 cm x Width 35 cm
Condition: Very good condition commiserate with age. Small hole lower left, minor blemishes along with partial mounting sheet attached verso. It is glazed with anti-reflective invisible glass “ArtGlass AR70” which has UV block of 70% visible light transmission of 99% and a reflection of 1%.
Provenance: Private Collection Sydney.

About: This is an important work by Elyard and possibly one of his most competent and engaging watercolours that he produced throughout his extensive body of work. Circa 1870 and inscribed verso “Yard o Nowra”.

Elyard is considered the most famous painter to have lived and worked in the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales. He was a prolific artist who completed around 1000 watercolours, sketches and paintings during his lifetime, many of which are now held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery and Nowra Museum.

Having studied under Australian Colonial artists Conrad Martens and John Skinner Prout his artistic endeavours were adequately skilled, resulting in Elyard becoming one of Australia’s most revered artists and important documenters of the south coast of New South Wales.
