Artist: Norman Septimus Boyce (British 1895-1962).
Title: Ships at Sea.
Medium: Watercolour on paper.
Framed Size: Height 40 cm x Width 48 cm x Depth 2.3 cm
Image Size: Height 23.5 cm x Width 31.5 cm
Condition: The painting is in a good condition, with strong colours and has a new mat and backing board. The frame is period and has been refurbished and is most likely original, as is the glass.
Provenance: Private Collection Sydney.

About: This is a lovely atmospheric watercolour by Norman Septimus Boyce, signed lower right, it depicts a sailing ship in the foreground with a distant steamer in the background.

Boyce is predominately known for his fishing and marine watercolours, although he did paint a number of county landscapes. He lived in Sunderland and painted scenes of the North Coast of England.

Boyce was the son of the well known British artist William Thomas Nichols Boyce (1857 - 1911) who was a marine and landscape painter in oil and watercolour.
