Artist: Italian School (Circa 1650s).
Title: Saint William of Aquitaine.
Medium: Pen, brown ink and wash on cream-laid paper.
Sheet Size: Height 7.8 cm x Width 11.6 cm (This work will be sold framed)
Condition: Good, with no foxing, repairs to lower outer bottom corners replaced with later paper.
Provenance: Private Collection London. Private Collection New York.
Several interesting pencil annotations and collector marks verso display the works ownership history.

About: This early drawing depicts Saint William of Aquitaine kneeling before Bishop Benedict of Ariane in the presence of monks as part of William's monastic vows. This drawing is possibly a study for a larger work and will be conservation-framed and ready to hang. A chance to own a piece of real art history!
