Title: Study for “The Artist’s Studio” 1820.
Medium: Pen and brown ink over graphite on paper.
Framed Size: Height 26.5 cm x Width 32 cm x Depth 1.7 cm.
Sheet Size: Height 11 cm x Width 15.6 cm.
Condition: The drawing is in good condition, with a small tear to bottom right corner. It is glazed with anti-reflective and UV-resistant ArtGlass AR70.
Provenance: Private Collection Cornwall, England.

About: This is a charming detailed pen and ink study for “Vernet’s The Artist’s Studio” which was painted in 1820. Interestingly the study includes a further penciled section to the right that was not included in the painting.

Vernet was the son of the famous French painter Carle Vernet who himself was the son of Claude Joseph Vernet the prominent French landscape painter. Horace Vernet was well known for his Neoclassical style of painting and his commissions for Napoléon III of France, these included many Napoleonic battle scenes and horse paintings.
