Artist: Circle of Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo (Italian 1727-1804).
Title: Grecian Battle Scene. (Appears to be monogrammed centre).
Medium: Watercolour over a pencil underdrawing.
Framed Size: Height 30.5 cm x Width 35.5 cm x Depth 1.5 cm.
Sheet Size: Height 12 cm x Width 18.5 cm.
Condition: The drawing is in very good condition. The work has likely been trimmed and is mounted down to the backing board. This process was undertaken several decades ago utilising acid-free materials. It is glazed with anti-reflective invisible glass ArtGlass AR70.
Provenance: Private Collection Sydney, Australia.

About: Battle scenes are amongst Tiepolo’s most popular works, with many relating to a series of ten magnificent canvases painted to decorate the main room of Ca’ Dolfin, a palace in Venice. These paintings, their preparatory drawings and the vast majority of Tiepolo’s work tend to share a sense of action, urgency and fluidity. A trait that was adopted by his contemporaries and later followers.
