Title: Women at the Fountain “Femmes a la Fontaine” (Circa 1840).
Medium: Watercolour on brown paper with gum Arabic.
Condition: This work is in its original mount and frame with discolouration to the mat and the recent inclusion of an acid-free barrier.
Provenance: Private Collection Sydney, Australia.

About: A theme that was explored throughout the Romantic style of the early 19th century. This work is likely a study produced in Tangier, Morocco. Interestingly the agave plants continue to be sketched underneath the mat. The draftsmanship within the watercolour is close to that of Eugène Delacroix.
