Artist: Circle of Etienne Jeaurat (French 1699-1789).
Title: Homme assis sur un rocher. (Man sitting on a rock).
Medium: Black chalk on wove paper.
Framed Size: Height 29.5 cm x Width 23.5 cm x Depth 1.5 cm.
Image Size: Height 14 cm x Width 11 cm.
Condition: The drawing is in good condition with a few very light spots of discolouration. Housed in a burr walnut frame with acid-free conservation mats and backing board. It is glazed with anti-reflective invisible ArtGlass AR70.
Provenance: Private Collection London, England.

About: Born in Auxerre, Etienne Jeaurat spent his formative years in Rome under the guidance of Nicolas Vleughels, French painter and director of the Académie de France in Rome. Vleughels, a good friend of Antoine Watteau, was a major influence on Etienne Jeaurat. Jeaurat enjoyed considerable success during his career painting portraits, still life, mythological, historical, and popular genre scenes. The genre scenes were in the style of David Teniers the Younger and Jeaurat was often referred to as the French Teniers.
