Artist: Berthe Marie Pauline Morisot (French 1841-1895)
Title: Jardin de Mezy (Landscape with trees and boat)

Framed Size: Height 43.5 cm x Width 39 cm x Depth 3.5 cm

Condition: This work is in very good condition, it has recently been cleaned, conservation framed and presents exceptionally well. There is a very faint old mat mark. A crease at the top of the sheet from previous mounting but this is under the mat. It is glazed with anti-reflective invisible glass “ArtGlass AR70” which has UV block of 70% visible light transmission of 99% and a reflection of 1%.
Provenance: Private Collection London.

About: Berthe Morisot was a painter and a member of the circle of painters in Paris who became known as the Impressionists. She was married to Eugene Manet, the brother of Edward Manet. Morisot was an important artist of 19th century Paris, playing a pivotal role in the development of the varying artistic scene of the day, namely the Impressionist movement.

This etching is a Posthumous printing from the cancelled plate, published by Ambrose Vollard, edition unknown. Catalog raisonne' reference: Johnson 83:7. According to Una Johnson, Ambrose Vollard acquired Morisot's 12 prints and had an edition, "probably small," printed. Aside from this edition, only a few rare early artist's proofs exist.

This etching is on a full size sheet and has not been trimmed. Pencil inscription verso "Berthe Morisot" This print has been recently cleaned and conservationally framed, it is in exceptional condition. The print is in a new Tasmainian oak frame, with acid free conservation mats and backing board.
