At the age of 20, Leopoldine Mimovich moved to Vienna, where she studied clay modelling and drawing. She later attended the School of Wood Sculpture in Hallstatt from 1943 to 1947. After her marriage to Ljubisa Mimovich, she migrated to Australia in 1949, eventually settling in Kew, where she established her studio.
One of her influences was English artist Henry Moore (1898-1986), and that influence is quite evident in this piece. Leopoldine undertook many commissions that reflected her Austrian traditions and Catholic background. A bronze and wood sculptor, painter and etcher, she was awarded an OAM for services to sculpture in 1985. Leopoldine's works are represented in numerous churches and public buildings in Australia and overseas.
