About: Rembrandt was known to have produced several miniature paintings and etchings that are not currently accounted for. The facial type in this painting is a familiar subject in Rembrandt’s oeuvre. It is also used in his etching entitled “Old Man with a Divided Fur Cap” (see below). Rembrandt’s painting, as shown in this miniature has an economy of brush stroke where the eye is led by suggestion to form the image rather than detail, such as his divided fur cap. This is then contrasted by areas of detail such as the feather, face and beard. These stylistic attributes typified Rembrandt’s working practice.

This painting is currently under research, contact us for further information.
