Artist: Georg Fischhof (Austrian 1859-1915) Signed J Wagner, Pseudonym.
Title: Entering the Harbour (Circa Late 1890s - Early 1900s).
Medium: Oil paint on wooden panel.
Framed Size: Height 35.5 cm x Width 48.5 cm x Depth 5.5 cm.
Image Size: Height 17.5 cm x Width 30.5 cm.
Condition: The painting is in very good condition and presents well.
Provenance: Private Collection Sydney.

About: Georg Fischhof was an Austrian painter born in Vienna. Fischhof studied at the Vienna Art School under the guidance of F. Shtarm, and furthermore at the Munich Academy of Arts.

Fischhof signed different series of works with different names, currently, seven pseudonyms are known. The majority of the thematic paintings are signed with the signature "J. Wagner" and "J. Claiton.”

Fischhof was also the author of numerous frescoes and sketches for tapestries. He painted the famous monasterial palace in Stift Klosterneuburg, and the palace of Count K. Razumovskyy and M. Wiener von Welten in Vienna. He also painted portraits on the order of the royal dynasties, including the most famous ones: the portrait of Archduke Rainier von Habsburg-Lothringen, the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Princess Dora von Holstein-Gottorp. He was also actively engaged in the field of book illustration.

His works are represented in collections across Austria, Denmark, Germany, Holland and Italy.
