Condition: The work is in good condition. It has been surface cleaned with paint stabilisation to edges of board. Housed in an ornate gilt frame, It is glazed with anti-reflective UV-resistant invisible ArtGlass AR70.

About: Born in Italy in 1921, Bruno Cengarle learned his trade painting frescos for churches before his arrival in Australia in 1949. Once in Australia, he attended the National Art School Melbourne under Alan Sumner and George Bell.

Cengarle was known for his unique Neo-Classical take on still life and portrait painting, along with many works adopting a sense of the surreal. Having exhibited in major capital cities in Australia he is represented within collections in both Australia and Italy. Notable works include the portrait of Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida and Lord Mayor of Melbourne Ralph Bernadi.
