About: La Cuisinere (The cook), a spontaneous render of the camp cook has been painted un plein air, the artist’s treatment of light on the standing figure is outstanding. The inscription also states the artist being that of a French interpreter.

Although the author of this painting remains unknown, the work is very suggestive of the influence of Edouard Vuillard (1868-1940) specifically recalling works created in and around his WW1 deployment. Comparable works for reference from, Vuillard: The Inexhaustible Glance: Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings and Pastels, Volume III.
