About: This is the first scene from a plate with 8 images by Daniel Hopfer (German 1470-1536), illustrating Matthew 23. The complete plate has Hopfer's monogram at the centre. In this specific scene, Christ shows the Apostles how the Pharisees do not enter heaven nor let those who are trying to. Since the impression is cut, it is unclear from which state it was pulled.
